The Role
We are looking for a motivated and curious Data Engineer Co-op student to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will support the design, development, and maintenance of scalable data pipelines and systems that meet the needs of our clients. You'll work closely with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, analysts, and other engineers, gaining hands-on exposure to how data is organized, made accessible, and prepared for analysis. This is an excellent opportunity to build practical data engineering skills while contributing to meaningful business outcomes across client projects.
What You'll Do
-
Assist in designing, developing, and optimizing scalable data pipelines and ETL processes for client projects.
-
Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and stakeholders to understand data requirements and support accurate, efficient data flow.
-
Help build and maintain data infrastructure, supporting high availability, reliability, and performance of data processing systems.
-
Work with datasets across platforms such as Snowflake, AWS, Databricks, or Google Cloud to support real-time and batch data processing.
-
Support the implementation of data quality monitoring and validation checks to help ensure data integrity and accuracy.
-
Assist with integrating data from multiple sources (structured, unstructured, and semi-structured) into comprehensive, analytics-ready datasets.
-
Help monitor data pipelines and troubleshoot issues, contributing to smooth operations and timely resolution of bottlenecks.
-
Contribute to documentation of data processes, pipelines, and architectural decisions.
-
Stay current with emerging data engineering trends and technologies, contributing ideas for continuous improvement.
What We're Looking For
-
Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field.
-
Coursework or project experience with SQL and databases such as Snowflake, Redshift, or BigQuery.
-
Familiarity with programming languages like Python, Java, or Scala, including basic data manipulation.
-
Exposure to cloud data platforms such as AWS (Redshift, S3), Azure, Google Cloud, or Databricks is a plus, but not required.
-
Interest in data integration tools and frameworks (e.g., Apache Spark, Kafka, Airflow, or DBT) — academic or personal projects welcome.
-
Basic understanding of data governance, data quality, and best practices in data architecture and security.
-
Familiarity with BI tools (e.g., ThoughtSpot, Power BI) is a plus.
-
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
-
Good communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
-
Must be eligible to participate in a co-op/internship program through your university (co-op enrollment verification may be required).
